I grew up in Launceston and always had Lego and K’nex as a kid. I enjoyed making things hands-on and in High school I enjoyed metal and wood work. I completed my electrical apprenticeship at ACL Bearing doing my training at TAFE. I left ACL through redundancies. Like a lot of people I considered employment on the mainland, but was lucky to find out about this job through a relative. I have now worked as an instrumentation technician in the Service Department for Cromarty for the past 5 years, and have been in the Electrical Industry for 10.

Since the electrical industry is always changing you get a lot of on-the-job training. I’m currently completing instrumentation training at the moment. I enjoy the huge variety of work that I do, it is never one thing all of the time. I’ve had the chance to work across the state for some of the big companies like Comalco (now known as Bell Bay Aluminium), Boags Brewery, Hydro Tasmania as well as TasWater.

What I like about my job is that I work on different projects all around the state with great people. Working in Tasmania means I get to stay near my family, and my partner is happy that I can avoid the fly-in fly-out type of work.
