When I was a kid, my father worked in the old Ammonia plant.  I have always been interested in the ‘zinc works’, it is something that has always been there.

The factory has been here forever and has been a big part of Tasmania’s history.  So, when the opportunity came up for an apprenticeship I applied.  I was lucky enough to get the job and I started in 1999 as an  Electrical and Instrumentation technician.  I finished my time and was lucky enough to be kept on, and 6 months later was offered the job as a shift electrician.

I think we are  lucky to have a large industrial plant so close to the city.  I don’t think there is anywhere else where you get that opportunity.  The process and operation of the plant is pretty amazing considering it is nearly 100 years old.

The amount of people who work here and the friendships you make along the way, make the place a great environment to work in.
